FEI launch #ChampionsAsOne

‘Champions are made and not born’…. In FEI sport it takes a huge team to make those champions, most of whom go unnoticed as the rider stands on the podium.

To celebrate the upcoming World Championships the FEI have launched a campaign acknowledging all those people who play a part in this story.

#ChampionsAsOne celebrates each vital cog in producing the heroes of horse sport and this includes the home grooms as well as the travelling grooms.

“If it takes a village to raise a child, it’s the hard work, determination, commitment, and passion of an entire community that is required for a horse and human athlete to get to the top of equestrian sport.

Each person plays a vital role in the success of our athletes, which is why we wanted to create a campaign that pays homage to each person’s unique and valuable contribution and also allows them to be a part of the celebrations, ” said the FEI’s Ralph Straus.

“With the formation of the IGA, and the MOU with the FEI, this now sets a new era for grooms and the recognition of their contribution to making a Champion. This one is for all grooms, not just those that are there for the big moment, but also those who keep the stables/barn operating at home.

It’s not only the champions who depend on their teams. At every level, riders rely on their grooms to know and love their horses, keeping them happy and healthy both travelling and at home. The responsibility the grooms carry is huge; without their passion and dedication, FEI sport would simply not function.

We are working with the FEI to shine a light onto the thousands of grooms across the world helping their horses perform at their best and we are delighted to see already a new vision for the groom’s inclusion in the upcoming Championships.

For anyone that doubts the reason behind the IGA and what impact we can have – this is it in action. Together, change is possible.”

Lucy Katan, IGA Founder and Exec. Director

This campaign is part of the FEI’s commitment to ‘shaping the future of equestrian sport together’. The wider recognition of the grooms is a key part of this commitment, placing the welfare and interests of international grooms at the very heart of the future of FEI sport.

Belonging to the IGA gives grooms a voice that is being heard.

For the very first time grooms have been involved in discussions prior to major championships. Being a part of the IGA is the best way to help create positive change.
