On 1st January 2024 the new FEI rules came into effect. Please take the time to have a look at your discipline rules to check for any changes that may affect you.
The KERs are designed to help improve standards across FEI competitions – organisers must comply with these requirements.
There are 14 KERs, which are all covered within the FEI rules.
These include stable biosecurity and security, stable cleanliness and vet inspections. These are three areas of concern we often hear about from our members.
Monitoring
These standards are to be monitored by the FEI Officials who must complete a report after the show, answering ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ when asked whether each KER is met.
Our message to you is simple – if you are at a show and you see something covered by these regulations that is not working, report it in the FEI HorseApp.
Please also raise the issue with the stewards or the vet if you feel confident to. This is really important, because it is their responsibility to submit the KER report within 15 days of the show.
Once the reports are submitted to the FEI if any of the KERs have not been met there will be investigation by either the Discipline Department or the Veterinary Department, and the host National Federation will be informed.
Important steps forward
We know the grooms' priority is always to keep your horses safe and happy. These KERs should help ensure proper standards are met at all FEI competitions.
The important thing for all grooms is to keep talking.
Speak to the FEI Officials if you have a concern; use the FEI HorseApp reporting and remember IGA members can report directly to us as well.
Reporting is absolutely vital in making sure standards are met – everywhere.
If you're not yet an IGA member, take a step forward now and join your professional association. We have seen a lot of important change in the last 18 months, but your support is vital in ensuring we continue to move forwards.
