The FEI Horse Health Regulations were introduced in mainland Europe after the EHV-1 outbreak last year, with the aim of protecting FEI horses and equestrian sport from the consequences of infectious diseases.
As of 1 January 2022 the FEI Horse Health requirements were rolled out worldwide, and from 1 September 2022 sanctions for non-compliance are also in force globally.
The FEI requirements are:
1. Take two daily temperature readings for every horse that will be present at an FEI Event for the three days leading up to the day of arrival and enter these recordings in the FEI HorseApp.
2. Fill in a Horse Health FEI Self-Certification form on the FEI HorseApp for all Horses attending an FEI Event.
3. Take the temperature of each horse twice a day at the FEI Event using your own thermometer and record the measurements directly in the FEI HorseApp.
Failure to comply with the regulations can ultimately result in the horse being suspended for up to a month.
Three further levels have been added to the sanction scale before the horse is suspended- for the first incident they will issue a warning followed by a scale of increasing fines. This is to ensure all grooms and athletes understand and fulfil the requirements.
